High Base Number Calcium Sulfonate Detergent
CAS: 61789-86-4
Molecular formula: (RC6H4O)2SxCa
Sulfurized Alkylphenol Calcium is a high-performance overbased calcium sulfonate detergent widely used in the formulation of engine oils and industrial lubricants. With a high Total Base Number (TBN ≥245 mg KOH/g) and calcium content ≥9.0%, it effectively neutralizes acidic byproducts, maintains engine cleanliness, and provides outstanding rust and corrosion protection.
Formulated as a reddish brown clear liquid, Sulfurized Alkylphenol Calcium demonstrates excellent thermal stability and detergent performance even under severe operating conditions.
Key Features
Excellent acid neutralization and deposit control due to high TBN
Strong detergency and anti-corrosion performance
High thermal and oxidative stability, extending lubricant life
Compatible with other additives in various lubricant systems
Suitable for use in high-performance engine oils and marine lubricants

APPLICATIONS
Diesel Engine Oil: Used in API CF-4, CH-4, CK-4 grade oils to inhibit carbon deposits in piston top ring grooves and address high-temperature lacquer film issues.
Example:In 15W-40 CK-4 oil, sulfonated alkylphenol calcium (HA115B) accounts for 30%-40% of the total detergent content, combined with sulfonates (HA106) to synergistically control soot deposition.
Marine Diesel Engine Oil: Compatible with high-sulfur fuels (sulfur content >3.5%), where high-alkalinity products (TBN 240-300 mgKOH/g) are used to neutralize sulfuric acid corrosion and extend engine life.
High-Performance Gasoline Engine Oil: Used in API SL, SM, SN grades to reduce low-temperature sludge on piston skirts while enhancing high-temperature oxidation resistance.
Example: In 5W-30 SN grade oil, combined with ashless dispersants (such as HA154) to improve high-temperature cleanliness.
System Oil/Cylinder Oil: For low-speed two-stroke marine engines (such as MAN B&W models), high-alkalinity sulfonated alkylphenol calcium (such as TBN 300+) serves as the core additive to effectively neutralize sulfuric acid generated from fuel sulfur combustion, reducing cylinder liner wear.
Gas Turbine Oil: Used for high-temperature lubrication in gas turbines (operating temperature >150℃) to inhibit the formation of oxidation gums and extend oil change intervals.
Heavy-Duty Industrial Gear Oil : Enhances extreme pressure and anti-wear properties while controlling high-temperature sludge.
Compressor Oil: Used in screw/ reciprocating air compressors to inhibit carbon deposits that cause valve plate adhesion, especially suitable for high-temperature conditions (exhaust temperature >100℃).
Cautions: Sulfonated alkylphenol calcium has a high ash content (calcium content >8%) and is not suitable for formulations requiring ultra-low ash (such as GF-6 gasoline engine oil). The addition amount needs to be controlled or a modified low-ash product should be selected.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
The recommended dosage is from 0.5% to 15.0%.
